چکیده

I-Help is a computer system that assists learners as they try to solve problems while learning a subject. I-Help achieves this by supporting a network of peers that help each other out. One component of I-Help selects appropriate peers to assist a student, and then sets up a one-on-one peer help session between the helper and the helpee. The matching of helper to helpee takes into account factors such as a potential helper's knowledge of the topic of the helpee's question; their availability and eagerness to help; and their general helpfulness. Recent work has developed a cognitive style component to supplement these attributes, which enables consideration also of the suitability of a helper’s cognitive style for answering the helpee’s question. This paper describes how modelling individuals' cognitive style can usefully supplement other user model data in a peer help network, and describes how this information is obtained in I-Help.

Reciprocal tutoring using cognitive tools

Reciprocal tutoring, where peers take turns to tutor each other, is an interesting style of social learning. In the Reciprocal Tutoring System (RTS), three computational cognitive tools were designed to facilitate reciprocal tutoring of Lisp programming on the network. The first is a Petal-style of code–chunk interface, with which a tutee can enter Lisp code without making syntactic errors. The...

A Multi-Agent Design of a Peer-Help Environment

This paper presents a multi-agent approach to design of adaptive distributed collaborative and peer help environments, which addresses a number of challenges: locating appropriate human and electronic resources depending on the help-request, motivating users to help each other, and is easily extendible "in-depth" and "in-breadth". We explore two novel approaches in user modelling: modelling of ...

TAC: A Topology-Aware Chord-based Peer-to-Peer Network

Among structured Peer-to-Peer systems, Chord has a general popularity due to its salient features like simplicity, high scalability, small path length with respect to network size, and flexibility on node join and departure. However, Chord doesn’t take into account the topology of underlying physical network when a new node is being added to the system, thus resulting in high routing late...
